Professional Liability is a type of liability coverage designed to protect traditional professionals (e.g., accountants, attorneys) as well as other professionals (e.g., real estate brokers, consultants) against liability incurred as a result of errors and omissions in performing their professional services. Most professional liability policies only cover economic or financial losses suffered by third parties, as opposed to bodily injury (BI) and property damage (PD) claims.
These types of claims are typically covered under general liability policies. There are a few exceptions to this (e.g., physicians, architects and engineers). The majority of professional liability policies are written on a claims-made coverage basis and we can help you understand this. We will also review with you the important provisions that can be part of these policies, such as “defense inside the limits” or coverage triggers or limitations.
