Standard Home policies will cover damage caused by windstorms, hurricanes, and hail. But if you live near the coast, these are typically excluded and you must purchase separate Wind and Hail insurance to receive protection for damages from wind, storms or wind-blown water.
Deductibles for wind damage come in various forms. Some are wind and hail deductibles. Others are less broad such as Hurricane or Named Storm deductibles. A deductible is that portion of a claim a homeowner is responsible for paying out of pocket.
The deductible is typically a certain percentage of the dwelling limit on your Homeowners policy.
For example, a 5% hurricane deductible on a $500,000 house equals a deductible of $25.000.
